St Cuthbert’s Hospice opened its doors in September 1988, situated on the outskirts of Durham. The majority of the people we serve have a diagnosis of cancer, but we also work with significant numbers of people with heart disease, respiratory illnesses and neurological conditions.

Although registered for 10 inpatient beds, the building has capacity to increase this up to 13 beds. Our day hospice cares for 15 guests per day, four days per week where they enjoy social activities and benefit from treatments, complementary therapies and counselling. We have excellent education and training facilities which are used for training for staff and volunteers as well as providing a resource for the local community. We also completed the creation of a child bereavement suite in 2012. The building is situated in beautiful and peaceful grounds which provide a therapeutic setting for patients and visitors alike.

We are a thriving organisation highly regarded for our quality of service achieving five star service in a recent inspection from the Care Quality Commission and in a strong financial position amidst the difficult economic times. We believe in the importance of quality of life, which helps people with life-limiting illnesses make every day count.

This is an exciting time to be joining us with a strong management and staff team of 60 staff on average supported by over 350 volunteers. We are continually developing and improving our services and have some excellent opportunities available. If you think that you can make a difference and share our passion for the work of the Hospice we would very much welcome an application from you.
