Everest Challenge Raises Over £3,000 for Hospice

Categories: Fundraising.

Chris and Dylan Ransome have completed a life-long dream by trekking to Mount Everest base camp in aid of St Elizabeth Hospice, raising over £3,000 for the charity in the process.

Taking place in October, the adventure saw Chris and his son, Dylan, trekking 13 days for roughly 80 miles to an elevation of just over 17,500ft to reach Everest base camp and back, travelling across challenging terrain such as snowcapped mountains and glacial scree.

Chris and Dylan took on the challenge in memory of their Nan, Hazel Chambers, who received support from the hospice before she passed away in August 2021.

Chris explained: “We wanted to give something back to the hospice for the love and care they showed to Hazel.

“Over the years, Hazel and her family have done various fundraising events raising money for the hospice and it was her wish to end her last days there. We were so relieved when a bed became available and we were able to give Hazel her last wish.

“The care and empathy shown at the hospice was nothing short of incredible. Nothing was too much trouble for them in regards to us and Hazel immediately looked more peaceful as soon as she arrived there. We can never thank the hospice enough for their care and support at the saddest time.”

Dylan added: “It was a once in a lifetime experience and it was no easy task, but it definitely helped having my Dad there, so we could motivate each other.

“We both feel very proud of ourselves and are thankful that we could give something back to the hospice for the exceptional care they provided and continue to provide.”

Head of Partnerships Fundraising at St Elizabeth Hospice, Nichola Whymark, said: “Thank you to Chris and Dylan for raising a brilliant amount of money for the hospice through completing such an incredible challenge.

“They really have completed a phenomenal achievement and the funds raised will make a difference to the hospice and the care we deliver to patients and their families throughout East Suffolk, Great Yarmouth and Waveney.”
