Our family support team is here for good days, difficult days and last days, helping all members of the family with a life limited child or young person.
In this new role, you will lead our small family support team providing psycho-social support to children, young people and families who visit our hospices. This help extends to the whole family – children, parents and siblings – and is built on care and understanding of their needs at a time of crisis and uncertainty. With support from counsellors and other support workers (both employed colleagues and trained volunteers), you will ensure that we respond to the needs of the family in the most timely and appropriate way, using internal resources and those from external agencies and organisations.
The team may be small but their impact and importance is enormous. Whether it’s arranging a siblings excursion or workshop, visiting families close to or post bereavement or helping them in their dealings with other agencies you will deal with complex and sensitive situations on a regular basis.
A qualified counsellor, you will work with both children and adults, and it is vital that you have experience of working with bereavement. Line management experience and sympathetic and effective communication skills are essential to the role as you will be required to liaise with a wide range of colleagues and organisations. Considerable travel throughout our region is required so you must possess a full driving licence, and some meetings are likely to take place outside the usual office hours.
