Find help and support

Categories: Care.

Find Me Help, developed by the Dying Matters Coalition, with funding by Macmillan Cancer Support, provides a directory of local and national services which offer help and support for people who are dying and their families, friends and carers.

Visitors to the site can enter their postcode to find details of all local services, whether they are provided by the NHS, a hospice or another local charity.

An advanced search enables patients and carers to identify services that meet their specific needs – such as medical help, carers support, benefits advice and bereavement support. The advanced search provides a number of options, in the form of questions, to help people find the service they need, for example:

  • I need some medical help, eg help from a nurse, with my medication etc.
  • I want to put my affairs in order before I die, what should I do?
  • I don’t understand the information I’ve been given
  • I’m having trouble dealing with a service/the authorities
  • I need a break, I would like some respite cover
  • I’d like to find out about carer support groups
  • The person I’m caring for has died, what should I do?

As well as providing links to useful organisations, the site also provides information on various topics – such as palliative care and advance care planning – and access to an online community, which includes forums and the Dying Matters blog.

Make sure your organisation is listed

The website is still being developed, and to ensure that visitors to the site can find relevant organisations, Dying Matters wants to ensure the directory is a comprehensive listing of all available services. You can check to see if your organisation is listed at www.help.dyingmatters.org/sp – if it is not you can quickly add the details using the online form.

Any services can be added to the directory if they work with people who are dying and their families, friends and carers, and are provided by:

  • charities
  • voluntary and community sector organisations
  • social enterprises
  • not-for-profit organisations
  • faith-based organisations
  • the NHS and the hospice sector.
