Totton-based food supplier, Harvest Fine Foods, celebrated the end of their fundraising year for Naomi House & Jacksplace by hosting an interactive cookery workshop for a group of boys at the hospices.
Naomi House & Jacksplace host activity days for a group of boys who all share the same condition. This gives them the opportunity to get together with others in a similar situation, be themselves and have fun.
The boys were guided by Development Chef, Phil Clark, and a small team of helpers from Harvest Fine Foods and were taught how to make ‘dirty burgers’ and ‘Tex-Mex sides’, which were cooked in the BBQ hut at Jacksplace. This was followed by creating their own ice cream sundaes at the ‘ice cream station’, setup by Harvest Fine Foods.
Phil Clark, Development Chef at Harvest Fine Foods, said:
“We had a fantastic day at Naomi House & Jacksplace celebrating the end of our fundraising year with a ‘final party’ cookery event for the service users. Thank you to the local suppliers who donated supplies for the event to take place.”
The food supplier collaborated with local companies and received donations for the ingredients for the food workshop from Isle of Wight Tomatoes, Speciality Bread, New Forest Fruits, New Forest Ice Cream, New Forest Mushrooms, Solent Butchers, Black Fox Woodland Produce, Nationwide and Belazu.
Jenny Astall, Support Worker at Naomi House & Jacksplace, said:
“Food is such an important aspect of our lives, so it was great to have the team from Harvest Fine Foods join us for a fun interactive workshop. The team were great at working with the boys in creating their own style of burgers and ice cream sundaes. Some of the boys were pleasantly surprised how adding ingredients like onions and gherkins gave extra flavour to their burgers, even though they weren’t sure to begin with!
“The group we run at Naomi House & Jacksplace allows the boys to get together with others in a place where they can be themselves and have fun. Thank you so much to Harvest Fine Foods for sharing skills and hosting an overall brilliant experience for the boys, who all left feeling content with full stomachs!”
Harvest Fine Foods have supported Naomi House & Jacksplace as a corporate partner since 2023. In that time, the team have supported the charity in many different ways, including fundraising, providing food at fundraising events and volunteering at community events. The team has raised £5,000 in just one year for the hospices.
Ella Clayton, Senior Corporate Fundraiser at Naomi House & Jacksplace, said:
“It has been a huge privilege to work with the team at Harvest Fine Foods to create a memorable and mutually rewarding partnership that has really flourished over the year. And to triple their original target is the icing on the cake! Huge congratulations and well done to the team.
“The food workshop forms part of our new approach in corporate fundraising to utilise a business’s expertise to help our charity. Thank you so much to the team for coming in and creating a wonderful experience for our boys’ group.”
Shelley Kinnaird, People and Sustainability Coordinator at Harvest Fine Foods, said:
“Harvest has supported Naomi House & Jacksplace through 2023 and 2024, raising a grand total of £5,000! It has been an absolute pleasure, and we hope to continue to aid the charity in the future through colleague volunteering days and more.”
