Salary £36,292 to £41,424 – Grade 6b (It is normal hospice practice to appoint at base of scale).

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced communications professional to join a large local not-for-profit organization. Ideally you will have strong social media and digital marketing experience as well as PR and media experience, preferably in the commercial and charity sectors, as well as brand management and offline marketing experience.

We are looking for someone who can translate easily and effectively all that we do and achieve, internally and externally, using the latest technology and most appropriate and impactful mediums of communication. You will be a creative thinker, able to demonstrate a good working knowledge of communications planning and delivering effective marketing and communications campaigns and projects.  Excellent creative writing skills are also essential as are your influencing and negotiating skills.

As Head of Marketing and Communications you will devise, plan and oversee the implementation of internal and external corporate marketing and communications activities using traditional and digital methods and channels. The role will also be responsible for websites and microsites.  You will also play a significant part managing relationships with other Heads of Department, working seamlessly across different Directorates and directly with members of the Executive team including the CEO. You will also have a flair for engaging with all stakeholders, including Trustees and volunteers and people under our care with ease, diplomacy and sensitivity.

You will need to have:

  • Strategic and creative communications skills with proven ability to innovate.
  • First class people and management skills, with the ability to work seamlessly in a dynamic and challenging environment
  • A good understanding of what makes external communications great and the positive impact timely and creative internal communications can have on an organization.
  • Previous media law experience and press relations – locally, regionally and nationally
  • An appreciation of the sensitivities of working for a charity that provides end of life care and support
  • An appreciation of the complexities of working for a charity, where reputation and local support are as important as the care and quality of our services that we deliver together with  a strong awareness of the external communications environment.

The post will be based at Saint Francis Hospice (outer east London) and is full time (37.5 hours per week).  The hospice offers great holiday allowance starting at 27 days going up to 33 days and offers a contributory pension as well as other benefits.
