Heart of Kent Hospice raises £40,000 from flagship Bluebell Walk

Categories: Fundraising.

Heart of Kent Hospice were delighted to welcome 550 enthusiastic walkers of all ages on Sunday 4 May 2025 to enjoy a six-mile Bluebell Walk through the Kent countryside in aid of the hospice.

This year’s Bluebell Walk has so far raised an incredible £40,000, with the total expected to rise further to around £45,000 when final sponsorship money is collected.

Returning as joint headline sponsors for this charity event were Kent based med-tech manufacturer Bedfont and their strategic partners NewMed Ltd.

Richard Neville who took part in the walk said: “The Bluebell Walk was such a great way to spend a Sunday morning. We got out in the lovely Kent countryside to support a charity really close to our hearts and to remember Dad who loved taking part in previous years and who the hospice provided an immense amount of care for. It is such a privilege to be able to fundraise to give more families the care and support we had when Dad was a patient.”

Events Manager at Heart of Kent Hospice Maisie Bass said: “It was a terrific event which took place on a lovely sunny Sunday.  We always enjoy watching all the enthusiastic walkers taking to the North Downs for our annual sponsored Bluebell Walk, many with a hospice water bottle and wearing one of our new branded t-shirts. Thank you to everyone who took part, fundraised, and donated to ensure Heart of Kent Hospice can continue giving compassionate end-of-life care to those who need it most.

“A huge thank you to all our volunteers who marshalled the route, parked cars and registered walkers, without which, this event could not take place.”

Each year the hospice events team organises a calendar of exciting events to raise vital funds for the hospice. From sporting challenges to family events, there is something for everyone. To find out more visit www.hokh.org/support-us/events/

Heart of Kent Hospice has been providing free, compassionate, end-of-life care to people living with a terminal illness and their loved ones in Maidstone, Aylesford, Tonbridge and Malling and the surrounding towns and villages for the past 34 years.

The hospice has built an excellent reputation within the local community for the quality of its care, which has been further endorsed by the Care Quality Commission who awarded us with an overall rating of ‘Outstanding’ following an inspection in February 2017.

Our vision is for everyone living with a terminal illness in our community to achieve the best quality of life. We are committed to achieving this by enabling them to live in comfort, with independence and dignity to the end of their lives, and to support those closest to them.

Last year the hospice cared for over 2,000 patients and their families in their own homes or at our Aylesford-based hospice. Our charity needs to raise £6.6 million to deliver all the hospices services, and we depend heavily on our loyal community of supporters, whose generous donations and fundraising activities raise money for us every year.
