HomeServe UK unveils ‘wonderful’ Acorns Walsall as new regional charity partner

Categories: Fundraising.

Walsall-based heating and plumbing specialist HomeServe UK has announced a new charity partnership with Acorns, a local children’s hospice providing lifeline care and support for local children and their families.

The announcement of the regional charity partner follows a staff vote as part of the company’s ‘Home Is Where The Heart Is’ campaign, and is part of the business’ ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy.

As well as financial support, HomeServe UK will work to boost recognition of Acorns services and extend their reach through a fundraising and volunteering schedule.

Greg Shelton, charity and community manager at HomeServe, said: “We are delighted to announce Acorns Walsall as our new regional charity partner.

“Acorns in the Black Country is a wonderful organisation caring for children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, but also supporting their families in those difficult times. We recognise the value of their contribution and want to help them – from day-to-day services to long-term visions.

“Acorns hospice in Walsall was one of the clear winners from our HomeServe vote, impressing our staff with the scope of their services and dedication to changing many families’ lives. We look forward to a long, successful partnership.”

Acorns Children’s Hospice provides specialist palliative care for children and young people with life limiting or life threatening conditions across the Black Country and wider West Midlands. The charity’s services also include emotional and practical support tailored to meet individual families’ needs. With annual costs of around £10 million to run the services, fundraisings and donations are crucial to its future.

Libby Rowlands, Acorns Senior Manager for Partnerships Fundraising, said: “We’re thrilled to have been chosen as a regional charity partner for HomeServe. Thank you to everyone who voted for Acorns – it really does mean a lot to us.

“Your support will help us continue our lifeline care for local children and their families and enable us to be there when they need it most.

“It’s only thanks to the generosity of partners like HomeServe, and the kindness of our local communities, that we can continue our vital care and support. We look forward to working with the team at HomeServe on many exciting opportunities ahead and sharing lots of special moments.”

The Acorns partnership is part of a wide spectrum of recent HomeServe charity engagement, including palliative and neurological specialist Sue Ryder being announced as the firm’s new national charity partner. That’s in addition to further regional charity partner announcements in Preston, Nottingham and Leeds.

Mr Shelton added: “Charity and community engagement is an integral factor of what creates the unique HomeServe culture. Our People are particularly proud to support amazing projects where they both live and work.

“We focus on empowering all our People to be actively involved and have their say in the selection process of our chosen charities at either a national or site-specific level, while also allowing them to support a cause close to them personally.

“This has ensured and allowed the entire business to have more impact on a national, local and individual level.”
