Hospice thanks community for their gift of support

Categories: Care and Leadership.

As the end of the year fast approaches, Treetops Hospice is thanking the local community for their gift of support over the last twelve months, helping them to provide vital care to over 2,000 patients and their families since the start of the year.

Treetops Chief Executive, Julie Heath, is extending her “heartfelt thanks to all our donors, volunteers and supporters.”

“We have reached the end of yet another difficult year, but thanks to the kind support from the local community, our Hospice at Home nurses have provided almost 24,000 hours of nursing care to patients in their own homes, at the very end of life.

“Our counsellors have provided over 4,300 sessions for bereaved adults and children, and for adults diagnosed with a life-limiting condition.

“And we’ve offered over 1,100 Wellbeing sessions to patients in person or via Zoom and made over 1,500 welfare calls

“We have been able to welcome patients through our doors safely again, and as we go into 2022, we’re further developing the care we can offer in people’s own homes. We couldn’t have achieved all of this without local support and on behalf of us all here at Treetops I want to thank everyone who’s helped us this year.”

The end of life charity based in Risley has produced a short thank you video from patients, volunteers and staff, explaining the impact supporters have had on the end of life charity. This can be found on the Treetops YouTube channel here: https://youtu.be/5ljU7oNYdIg

About Treetops Hospice

Treetops Hospice, the leading end-of-life care charity in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, provides nursing care and emotional support for adults with life-limiting conditions, and their families.

The charity provides support from diagnosis onwards for patients with conditions such as cancer, motor neurone disease and heart and respiratory conditions.

Founded in 1983, Treetops supports thousands of local people – and their families – through the most difficult time of their lives. Our team of over 40 Hospice at Home nurses provided over 23,800 hours of care to terminally-ill patients last year, working day and night to give much-needed support.

We have a team of bereavement counsellors who provide over 4,000 counselling sessions – over 900 of them to children and young people. Wellbeing team members provide valuable information and support to those who need it, while our experts in end-of life care and bereavement support dedicate many hours to training NHS staff about death and dying.

Treetops are lucky to have over 450 amazing volunteers who help to keep the hospice running smoothly.

It costs £4.2m each year to run the hospice. A counselling session for a bereaved child costs £34. An overnight Hospice at Home nursing shift for a patient at the end of life costs £108.

Treetops is doing all it can to continue to support those in most need and welcomes donations to ensure the future of the hospice and its services: www.treetopshospice.org.uk/donate
