Hospices attract the support of parliament

Categories: Community Engagement.

The early day motion was tabled to draw attention to the work of hospices across the UK as well as to Hospice Care Week. Many hospices contacted their local MP to sign the EDM as part of a range of engagement activities that hospices have been encouraged to undertake during Hospice Care Week.

Hospice Care Week is an annual week of activity, this year running from 8 through until 14 October, to help raise the profile of hospice care across the UK. With an overarching message ‘hospice care, be surprised’, the theme this year is how hospices reach out to and support the many different communities they serve.

Hospices are spreading the word in their communities: hospice care is for everyone, including people of all faiths, social groups or ethnicities, people with a range of life-limiting conditions, and people in a variety of settings including care homes, hospitals and their own homes.

Activities to celebrate the week and the work hospices do are taking place throughout the UK.

A number of hospices are engaging with local elected representatives from MPs to local councillors to raise the profile and understanding of hospice care as the health, care and support environment changes.

Check to see if your MP has signed the EDM in support of hospice care, and if they haven’t, why not ask them to?

And keep viewing ehospice each day for Hospice Care Week stories, including interviews with MPs who are getting involved with their local hospice’s activities.

Hospice care week is timed to coincide with World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, a unified day of action to celebrate and support hospice care throughout the world, taking place on October 13. ehospice will also feature stories about World Hospice and Palliative Care Day across our various editions.
