Opened in 1978, St Gemma’s Hospice has become one of the largest hospices in England, providing specialist medical and nursing care for people with life threatening illnesses through our In-Patient Unit, Day Services and in people’s homes.
The St Gemma’s Academic Unit of Palliative Care was established in 2011 as a formal academic partnership between the University of Leeds and St Gemma’s Hospice. The aims of the AUPC are to use knowledge more effectively to improve patient care, to capitalise on the strengths of St Gemma’s Hospice and the University of Leeds in achieving this, and to be recognised internationally as an outstanding model of integrated research, teaching and clinical practice.
The Academic Unit is firmly established and going from strength to strength and due to retirement of the current post holder, we now wish to appoint a Lecturer in Palliative care to work as an integral part of the AUPC.
We are seeking an individual who can lead the development, organisation and management of accredited, palliative/Endof Life Care programmes delivered at St Gemma’s Hospice. In addition, under the direction of the Head of Learning and Teaching, you would contribute to the development of an organisation-wide education programme for all Hospice staff and volunteers and also to an outreach palliative/End of Life Care education programme at all levels for health/ social care staff.
You will be educated to Masters Level and have significant experience as an educator at degree level or higher, be familiar with academic models and frameworks and have worked within a palliative care environment.
In the next few years, there is huge scope to develop opportunities for learning and teaching in palliative care in the Yorkshire region and this post is critical to ensuring the success of the AUPC in this endeavour.
