Local fundraiser takes on 5th Durham City Run for St Cuthbert’s Hospice.

Categories: Fundraising.

Hospice fundraiser Dave Welsh is taking on the Durham City Run for the 5th time this July, raising money for local charity St Cuthbert’s Hospice.

Dave told us:

‘I signed up because my daughter Kay works at the Hospice in the Income Generation Team and is one of the run leaders at their running club St Cuthbert’s Champions. I go along every Monday and meet with the runners and we do an easy run around the area. This will be my 5th Durham City Run and each year I sign up to run for St Cuthbert’s Hospice to say thank you for their support.

My family has used the Hospice services, so I know just how amazing and caring the staff are.

I’d really encourage anyone thinking about taking on the Durham City Run to sign up to race for the Hospice… why not give it a go? And, definitely come along to St Cuthbert’s Champions on a Monday night, we meet in the Hospice car park at 5:30pm!”

The Hospice have 40 free charity places for either the 5K or 10K race on Thursday 18th July 2024 in Durham City Centre,  when fundraisers pledge to raise £100 for the Hospice.

St Cuthbert’s Hospice in Durham is a registered charity. Whilst some of the running costs are met by the NHS through local Commissioning Groups, a further £2.5 million pounds per year must be raised by the hospice to run the services, with much of the money coming from local events and fundraising activities. St Cuthbert’s Hospice opened in 1988 and provides care for people with life limiting conditions, as well as giving support to their families.

The Living Well Centre offers day services each week day, such as physiotherapy, complementary therapies, advice on symptom control and social activities.

The In-Patient Unit, which opened in 2006 following a public appeal, allows the Hospice to offer 24-hour care for people living in Durham, Chester le Street and the surrounding areas. There are 10 bedrooms which provide individualised care planned to support the total wellbeing of each person, taking into account their physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs. It provides holistic care for patients with life limiting illness.
