Local Hospice thanks tee-riffic golfers

Categories: Fundraising.

Princess Alice Hospice is delighted to announce that the world’s largest golf travel business – Your Golf Travel – will be sponsoring the Professional Golfers’ Association’s (PGA – South England region) Nelson Trophy at St George’s Hill Golf Club in Weybridge for a 15th consecutive year on Saturday 17 September 2022.

Over the years, the annual Pro-Am tournament has raised an astonishing £600,000 for the Hospice, providing much-needed high-quality specialist care and support to adults with life-limiting illness and enabling us to reach out to more people at a time when they need us most.

Claire Woodward, Community Partnerships and Events Lead said: “On behalf of everyone at the Hospice, I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has been involved in the Nelson Trophy each year – the money raised so far is quite astonishing.

We appreciate the generosity and warmth of all who take part and for the huge effort put into organising the day by St George’s Hill Golf Club and Your Golf Travel. We simply couldn’t continue to do what we do without this outstanding support.”

September’s mixed teams’ event at St George’s Hill will be supported by Captain Hugh Roberts who said: “We always look forward to this wonderful annual event that supports an amazing charity. Princess Alice Hospice is a great cause and one that is close to so many of our hearts at the club. We know it will be another fantastic event and look forward to welcoming all who take part.”

2021’s Nelson Trophy was awarded to Conor Coles, grandson of English champion golfer Neil Chapman Coles MBE, who had a successful career in European Tour golf, winning 29 tournaments between 1956 and 1982

Princess Alice Hospice: For Compassion. For Excellence. For People. For Living.

Princess Alice Hospice has, for more than 35 years, provided free, high-quality, specialist end of life care to tens of thousands of people across a large part of Surrey, south west London and Middlesex.

Today, at any one time, Hospice nurses, doctors and other specialist staff are looking after more than 900 people in need. The Hospice’s mission is to reach out to even more people by delivering outstanding care to those that need it. To enable us to do this, we must rely on the commitment and support of our communities who help us to raise vital funds.

£10.1 million is needed each year to provide our vital services. With limited NHS funding which represents circa 24% of our expenditure on charitable activities, in more normal times, the balance is raised through legacies, fundraising, dedicated shop units and investments. It is only the generous support of our communities and beyond, that makes it possible to do our work.
