The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has rated Naomi House & Jacksplace as ‘Outstanding’, following its inspection in November 2023. The CQC is an independent regulator who oversee the quality and safety of health and social care in England.
Naomi House & Jacksplace are local hospices providing expert care and support for children and young adults, as well as their families.
As a charity, based just outside of Winchester, they care for over 500 local families every year. To provide this level of outstanding care typically costs over £8 million every year and the majority of that income comes from its local supporters. In fact, just 12% comes from the government.
The inspection was carried out as part of the CQC’s continual checks on the safety and quality of healthcare services. The hospices were last inspected in 2015, where their services were again recognised as Outstanding by the authority.
Following the inspection, the hospices have been rated Outstanding overall. The assessment has 5 categories, and the hospices were rated Outstanding in ‘Caring’ and ‘Responsive’; with ‘Effective’, ‘Safe’ and ‘Well led’ receiving recognition as Good.
Mark Smith, CEO at Naomi House & Jacksplace, said:
“I am delighted that, as a team, we have maintained our ‘Outstanding’ rating from the Care Quality Commission.
This achievement is a testament to our unwavering commitment to providing exceptional palliative care and support for children, young adults and their families.
It reflects our charity’s Vision, where compassionate support and expert palliative care can be accessed when and where it is needed. It also supports our strategy: to reach more families and develop our services, and to collaborate with the healthcare system – in partnership. We will do this to ensure that Naomi House & Jacksplace continue to have a positive impact on the communities we serve. Together, we’re all looking forward to building on this success.”
Erika Lipscombe, Director of Care at Naomi House & Jacksplace, said:
“I recently joined the team at Naomi House & Jacksplace and I know just how hard it is to maintain a CQC rating of ‘Outstanding’.
It fills me with pride to be welcomed into a supportive team that displays such remarkable dedication and compassion. Every day, we are privileged to provide high-quality, personalised care that meets the unique needs of each family.
The positive feedback shared by families during the inspection underscores the profound difference our team makes in the lives of those we support.”
Andy Meehan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Naomi House & Jacksplace, said:
“Achieving an ‘Outstanding’ rating once again is a moment of immense pride for our charity.
It highlights the strong governance, effective leadership and dedication of the individuals across the organisation, from the trustees on our board, to our staff and volunteers.
Their collective efforts ensure that we not only meet but exceed the expectations of those we care for. We set high standards and we work diligently and collaboratively towards our mission of providing outstanding, compassionate, expert care.
We are deeply grateful for the trust placed in us by the families we support and the individuals and communities who give their time and money to support our charity.”
