The new service is comprised of:
a website with practical advice and information and links to local and national organisations that can provide help and support
a helpline (01905 760934) for those registered with a GP in South Worcestershire, which operates Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm
support from a bereavement social worker for families and individuals that have experienced sudden death of a loved one or encountering complex grief reactions
training for health and social care professionals to help them to understand bereavement journey and ways in which they can support the bereaved in their day to day work.
June Patel, care director at St Richard’s Hospice, said: “The aim of the new bereavement support service is to provide people with information and links to organisations which may be able to offer help and guidance across a range of needs from practical issues to emotional support. The telephone helpline will also be very useful for those who would prefer to talk to someone. We are working closely with the hospitals, emergency services, GPs and other organisations to ensure they are aware of the new service and can direct people who may benefit from that support.”
