The new online system is being launched to make claims quicker and easier. Highlights of the new service include:
- Faster and more accurate claims – there will be built-in checks that will highlight mistakes before claims are submitted, reducing the need for claims to be sent back for corrections.
- Easier Gift Aid records for sponsored events – there will be no need to list every individual donor who sponsored a particular individual, unless there are individual donations from a donor of £500 or more.
- Higher limit for aggregated donations – claimants will be able to aggregate individual Gift Aid donations of £20 or less, up to a total of £1,000 per entry (an increase from the current limit of £500).
Charities will be able to make claims in one of three ways – using the online form, through their own database, or using a new paper form for those who do not have access to the internet.
HM Revenue & Customs will continue to accept the current R68(i) print forms until 30 September 2013. However, claims made under the new Gift Aid Small Donations Scheme will need to be submitted using Charities Online.
Further details are available on the HMRC website. New template spreadsheets will be published in early March 2013, along with details on how to sign up to use Charities Online and how to access, complete and upload the spreadsheets.
