NGS backs Hospice Care Week

Categories: Community Engagement.

The National Gardens Scheme (NGS) has supported national charity Help the Hospices since 1997, helping to raise over £2 million for hospice care through garden openings.

This year, NGS volunteers and supporters have joined hundreds of people in pledging their support for Hospice Care Week by sharing photos in the ‘I am hospice care’ gallery.

The gallery features photos and messages from hospice supporters, patients, volunteers and celebrities, bringing to life how many different people are either involved with or receive hospice care.

The theme of Hospice Care Week this year is ‘Be surprised, hospice care is for everyone’, highlighting how hospices support people from all corners of their community – whoever they are, wherever they are and whatever their illness.

George Plumptre, chief executive of the National Gardens Scheme, said: “Hospice care is not about buildings. It is about people and communities – from those like the NGS who support and work in partnership with their local hospices, to the patients, friends and families who rely on them. Together, we are all hospice care.

“Hospice Care Week is an opportunity to celebrate our ongoing support for the incredible care that local hospices provide to seriously ill people and their families.”

Over the years, generous funding from the NGS has supported a variety of programmes including training for hospice staff, equipment for delivering hospice at home, hospice awards and national projects supporting clinical excellence.
