Now in its second year, nominations for the Amplifon Awards for Brave Britons can be made in four categories: Outstanding Military Bravery; Against all Odds, for people who have battled adversity to take on exceptional challenges; Community Champion, recognising those who have made important contributions to their communities; and Hero Pet, for animals who have transformed the lives of their owners.

Amplifon were founded to produce devices for people whose hearing had been affected during World War II. The awards have been set up in honour of Amplifon’s founder, WWII hero Major Charles Holland. Holland was decorated by both the British and the American military for his bravery behind enemy lines. He was awarded both the MBE and the Military Cross and received the Bronze Star from the United States Government in 1948.

Falklands war veteran Simon Weston was named the Nation’s Favourite Hero in 2014 and is heading up this year’s judging panel. He said:

“The Amplifon Awards for Brave Britons will shine a light on a very British breed of hero: those who, like Major Charles Holland, through incredible acts of courage, bravery and incredible selflessness, are an inspiration to others.”

“We all know an unsung hero who deserves recognition for their service to others, their country or community and we are calling on the public to nominate these truly remarkable people.”
