Based in Watford, Hertfordshire at Peace Hospice Care

Do you like teaching but never have the time to dedicate to it? Would you like to do more teaching but retain direct contact with patients? This job allows you to do both.

A unique opportunity has arisen in this established position for an experienced nurse to join our palliative care team within West Hertfordshire.  This post extends multi-professional education and practice development opportunities within the Peace Hospice and West Herts Hospitals Trust (WHHT).

The post holder will be employed by Peace Hospice Care, the specialist palliative care inpatient unit within South West Herts and will work clinically within the West Herts Hospitals Trust Specialist Palliative Care Team.

The post holder will aim to improve the capabilities of health care professionals working in the hospice/hospital environment in the delivery of cancer and palliative care to patients.  You will work in collaboration with the University of Hertfordshire and other academic providers. The post holder will have a dual role working in both the clinical and educational setting.  Clinically you will be an active member of the palliative care team in a hospital setting, working directly with patients/families with complex needs.

The successful candidate will also function as an autonomous practitioner within the WHHT Specialist Palliative Care Team, allocating your days through collaboration between teams. You will develop education initiatives within the Hertfordshire End of Life Education Group that are designed to reduce the practice and theory gap in the delivery of high quality palliative care.

You will have clinical experience within Specialist Palliative care and experience of delivering education.  In the educational role the post holder will facilitate a partnership approach to multi-professional palliative care education and practice development across the Service.

There are on-going support and professional development opportunities available from Peace Hospice Care, the Trust and Macmillan Cancer Support. The education skills learned in this role could contribute to the profile of those ultimately seeking Clinical Leadership, Quality and Education roles or into academic University teaching.
