Fifty students from the university were given work placements at the hospice to gain first hand knowledge of palliative and end of life care. One of the students is now working full time at the hospice.
Following on from this they are set to collaborate on further projects for researchers, lecturers and members of staff. These include short courses in palliative care and getting business students to work on digital marketing campaigns for the hospice.
Lynn Kelly, Director of Knowledge Exchange at St Catherine’s, said:
“We are passionate about broadening the scope of our work and sharing our skills and expertise with others through this pioneering partnership, which ultimately will improve the lives of the local people St Catherine’s serves. We know that UCLan can help us develop our services in fresh new directions, and we’re looking forward to working with the university on many projects which have the potential to make a big difference to local people.”
Stephen Greenhalgh, Chief Executive of St Catherine’s added:
“It signifies the start of another exciting new chapter and outlines the framework for working more collaboratively in the future for the benefit of hospice patients, staff, UCLan students and lecturers, and the wider Central Lancashire community. I am delighted that we will be working even more closely together to help make a difference when it matters most.”
