Progress in social care at the end of life

Categories: Care.

In 2010 the National End of Life Care Programme published ‘Supporting people to live and die well: a framework for social care at the end of life‘.

NHS Improving Quality and ADASS have now published a progress report on the implementation of this social care framework by local authority adult social care departments in England.

The report includes the results of an audit of the framework in action across local authority social services departments.

The report demonstrates how the landscape of health and social care has changed and includes a number of examples of best practice, covering a range of areas including:

  • increasing public awareness
  • commissioning
  • contracting and procurement
  • patients’ end of life care plans
  • workforce development
  • education
  • social work practice.

The progress report can be downloaded from the NHS IQ website.
