Rennie Grove Peace announces conference line up

Categories: Education.

Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care is delighted to announce the speakers for its annual Palliative Care Conference, taking place on Wednesday 23 October. This year’s conference will explore the theme of Embracing the challenges of an evolving Palliative Care landscape and features an esteemed list of speakers from across the UK.

The provision of local hospice care has been in the news recently, with Hospice UK highlighting the growing demand in society.

Recent data released by Hospice UK shows that as many as 90% of people who die in the UK would benefit from palliative care. In our 2024 conference we address this and ask questions such as ‘what opportunities does the changing palliative care landscape bring?’, ‘how can we harness the use of data to make patient care more effective?’, and ‘how can we better support our clinical teams to meet these demands?’

The conference is online and open to healthcare professionals across the UK.  People who are unable to attend the virtual conference on the day, can download a recording of each of the sessions after the ‘live’ conference, in order to fit the conference around other work commitments.

The event will be opened and chaired by Dr Sarah Klinger, Medical Director at Rennie Grove Peace and a consultant in palliative medicine.   She will be joined by:

  • Dr Sarah Cox, Lead Medical Examiner at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, and Honorary Consultant at Royal Hospital Chelsea, whose talk is titled ‘Palliative Care in 2024 – turning challenge into opportunity’.
  • Wendy Freeman, Care Home Educator Specialist at Isabel Hospice, and Leonie Lowrie Practice Educator at Rennie Grove Peace, who will do a joint talk about ‘Inclusive Palliative Care and End of Life Care for all’.
  • Lizzie Pickering, Speaker and Grief Investigator, who will talk about grief journeys from diagnosis to bereavement and beyond.
  • Dr Lisa Nolan, Palliative Medicine Consultant at Rennie Grove Peace and Rachel Griffith, Practice Educator at Rennie Grove Peace, who will take delegates through ‘Creating a framework for the future: Unlocking our potential’

  • Dr Sarah Zaidi, Ageing well Steward for Mid & South Essex ICS and Clinical Lead Frailty and Home First forNHSE East of England, who will take delegates through ‘Smart Data for End of life care Population Health management – Informing true needs and system wide palliative and end of life care quality improvement performance’.

Dr Sarah Klinger, Medical Director at Rennie Grove Peace, says:

“We’re delighted to announce our lineup of expert speakers for our online Palliative Care Conference, which gives healthcare professionals the opportunity to come together and learn about best practice, new research and the latest developments in the field.

Palliative and end of life care is facing many challenges.  Deaths are predicted to rise significantly over the next decade, patients are more likely to live alone and have more complex symptoms, and recruiting and keeping palliative care staff is a huge struggle. Our conference gives healthcare professionals the opportunity to share knowledge and learn how to embrace and meet these challenges.”
