A nurse from Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice in Oxenhope has been given the prestigious Queen’s Nurse title for her commitment to delivering outstanding end-of-life care.
Advanced Clinical Practitioner Belinda Marks, 62, joined Sue Ryder in 2022 after working in the NHS for 40 years within oncological and palliative care.
Over the past two years, Belinda’s innovative approach has significantly expanded the reach of Sue Ryder’s services in West Yorkshire through introducing nurse-led beds within the inpatient unit, allowing more patients in the community to access the care they need.
Belinda, who is from Oxenhope, said it feels ‘amazing to be acknowledged’ after receiving the historic Queen’s Nurse title, which recognises professionals that deliver outstanding care.
Belinda said: “I work with such a wonderful team at Sue Ryder who are so inspiring and I am able to support families and patients every day – in all my years of being a nurse I have never lost my passion, and to be awarded the Queen’s Nurse title is such a wonderful accolade.”
Belinda was also awarded a Queen’s Honours four years ago for her commitment to delivering exceptional care. Speaking about why she has dedicated her career to palliative care, Belinda said:
“What keeps me so passionate is knowing the difference you make through your work. Even if you can make one tiny difference for a patient or a family, it can have such a huge impact.”
Sarah Bottomley, Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice Service Director, said: “Belinda is very deserving of the Queens Nurse title, she never fails to impress me with her commitment to her role, her passion for palliative care, which is unwavering, and her boundless enthusiasm for developing services. All to ensure people receive the support they need when faced with a palliative diagnosis.”
