Thank you for bursting our bubble!

Categories: Care and Featured.

After 3 years of planning and nearly a year since launch we finally made it to our first event, the Hospice UK 2021 conference in Liverpool. Three days that completely burst the bubble we were living in, and it was fantastic.

For those that don’t know us Life Ledger are like a private sector version of the government’s Tell Us Once service, we allow families to notify everyone from banks and building societies to gas, water, and electricity suppliers of the death of a loved one. All for free and all from one place.

Through Life Ledger the bereaved can inform car, house and pet insurance, telephone, broadband and internet providers. Satellite television, on demand and streaming service companies. Issuers of credit cards, loyalty cards and store cards, TV licence, premium bonds and pretty much everything in between.

Our service gives families a space to organise, send and track their death notifications. Making the process simpler, faster, and far less stressful. We thought it was the bee’s knees. But we were the only judges, as a team we were isolated and only had our own opinions to base things on. That all changed in Liverpool.

For the first time we got raw, unbiased, unfiltered feedback. The bubble we had been working in was charged by a horde holding pins and the result was an amazing validation of our idea. As we talked with people from across the hospice sector it became clear that what we were offering filled a void and would deliver real benefit to the sector.

The conversations we had with delegates over the 3 days provided us with an amazing insight to the sector. We discussed key touch points, obstacles faced, common issues, language to use, language to avoid and all of this shared knowledge will help shape our thinking and ultimately improve our service.

We had already realised that sending death notifications for free was only useful to the Hospice Sector for the final part of their involvement with families. But our paid for Register a Life service (we use the income from this to help keep our service free for the bereaved), certainly wasn’t right for the Hospice sector. So, we refined our offer, now we ensure the fee is waived if someone is in end of life or hospice care.

The reaction to this was brilliant with so many people talking about supporting families and individuals who are worried about the administrative mess left behind.

And to round things off we were able to talk about launching a partnership programme in the new year that will offer participating hospices a 50/50 revenue split on the annual subscription for our Register a Life service if their supporters and friends sign up using a unique code for their hospice.

So, thank you again Hospice Sector you have given us a huge boost and really helped us on our way.
