Hospice in the Weald was delighted to welcome His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester for a special visit to its site in Pembury to meet patients, staff and volunteers.
His Royal Highness, accompanied by the Lord Lieutenant of Kent, Lady Colgrain, were given a tour of the Hospice by Chief Executive Nick Farthing during the visit on Thursday (9th July).
The Duke met those who access the Living Well service and the team who deliver it, enjoying live music at a sing-along session and learning about the therapeutic benefits of the wide range of support offered to those facing life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses.
His Royal Highness also heard about the breadth of care the Hospice offers throughout the community, meeting staff and volunteers from services including the inpatient ward, hospice outreach, therapies, counselling, chaplaincy and spiritual support, retail and fundraising. The Duke also visited some of the Hospice’s beautiful gardens and learnt about the therapeutic benefits they bring for all.
The Duke also saw the Hospice’s refurbishment plans that are underway to transform all patient areas, including the inpatient ward, Living Well and reception areas.
Meeting staff, architects and contractors involved in the project, The Duke was delighted to hear about the Hospice’s inclusive approach to the design and planning process, which included patients, volunteers, and staff in the decision-making process alongside the professional design team.

It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase the exceptional care, compassion, and support that we provide to our patients, loved ones and community every day.”
