The Myton Hospices is thrilled to announce that it has won the prestigious Innovator in Care Award. The national Hospice UK Awards celebrate the pioneering work taking place at hospices and palliative care organisations nationwide. This year, the awards received over 150 entries across eight categories, making it the strongest and most competitive pool they have ever had.
The Innovator in Care award recognises individuals and organisations who have improved the experience of care through creativity, collaboration and forward-thinking approaches. Myton received the award for its GP Information Clinics, recognised for transforming how people with life-limiting illnesses, their families and carers access support and information.
Developed in partnership with local Primary Care Networks, Myton’s GP Information Clinics embed specialist hospice expertise directly within GP practices. This innovative approach allows patients and families to receive timely, personalised guidance in a familiar and trusted environment. By offering hospice support earlier in a patient’s journey, the clinics empower individuals to make informed decisions and enhances their overall experience of care.
Presented at Hospice UK’s national conference in Liverpool, the award was accepted by Registered Nurse Olivia Bowskill, Community Engagement Manager at The Myton Hospices, who leads the project. Olivia said:
“I am incredibly proud to have won this prestigious award, which highlights just how important it is to reach people earlier in their illness. The patients I see in these clinics are often able to access support services they never knew existed. Being able to offer this service at such a critical time – when things can feel scary, complex and uncertain – helps to ensure people have the knowledge and reassurance they need.”
The Hospice UK Innovator in Care Award judges commented:

The Myton Hospices plans to expand the GP Information Clinics across Coventry and Warwickshire, enabling even more patients and families to benefit from earlier access to specialist support. The long-term goal is to embed this model as a sustainable, community-based approach to palliative care, creating a replicable blueprint for hospices nationwide.

At Myton, demand for our Inpatient Units has increased by 11% in the last 12 months, and too many people are dying on the waiting list for this vital service. As the only provider of Hospice Inpatient Beds in Coventry and Warwickshire, we are acutely aware of the need for more, but are limited in what we can provide due to funding constraints.
We are a charity, we are not the NHS, and we have to raise £12.7 million of the £15.3 million it costs this year to continue providing our services free of charge to patients and their loved ones. Just 17% of our funding comes from the NHS. We rely on donations and support from our local communities.
