Starr Gate beach was a sea of colour as nearly 2,000 people turned up to paint the beach at this year’s July Blackpool Colour Run. The annual event sees participants running 3km on the beach through seven powdered paint stations, crossing the finish line looking all the colours of the rainbow.
And with the fun comes fundraising, as this year’s event has exceeded all expectations and has raised an incredible £55,000 for organisers Trinity Hospice, as people made a donation or pledged to get sponsorship for taking part, as well as soaking up the atmosphere with extra merchandise on the day.
The event celebrated its 10th anniversary as the hospice celebrates it’s 40th milestone.
Trinity’s Events Fundraiser, Danny Hickes, said: “Despite the damp forecast, our Colour Runners turned out in force to have a fantastic time with their friends and families.
“Blackpool Colour Run is a firm favourite with local families, looking to have fun and get colourful while they support local hospice care for the Fylde coast. And we’re absolutely blown away with how much this year’s event has raised!
“The kind donations and sponsorship of our participants has raised an incredible amount – enough to run our Hospice at Home service, supporting patients at home during the night when other services are closed and saving unnecessary and unwanted trips to hospital – for over a month!
“Every year we need to raise over £6 million to keep our services running and our expert care free to all who need it. It’s why we rely on our community to continue to support us, and by providing them with fun events like Blackpool Colour Run, we hope we are giving them something in return for their unwavering generosity.
“Colour Run wouldn’t be possible without our Colour Station Sponsors, our team of wonderful volunteers and every single person who showed up, ran through paint and had a wonderful time. Thank you so much for making a significant difference to local hospice care.”
