This master class builds on the experience and outcomes of St Luke’s innovative Volunteering in Partnership (VIP) project which has developed new volunteering opportunities for young people in patient-facing roles – with a focus on caring for the frail elderly and those at the end of life.
In tandem, St Luke’s produced a comprehensive VIP Toolkit. This is available to download and includes all the processes for implementing the VIP approach and training of volunteers to work across a range of settings – hospice, acute hospital and care homes.
Other developments include the Caring Compass project, which will train staff and more experienced volunteers to become peer mentors, while training elements of the toolkit are being mapped across to the Care Certificate so that volunteers can work towards this qualification.
