Local charity, Willen Hospice were delighted to welcome over 300 walkers to their Midday Moo event, sponsored by Marshall Amplification, on Saturday 18 May, raising over £25,000 for the Hospice.

The day-time fundraiser, inspired by their flagship Midnight Moo event, sees local people walk 5 or 10 miles around Milton Keynes with pitstops along the way.

This year’s theme was ‘Join the herd’ with people dressed up in their cow-print Midday Moo t-shirt as well as cow accessories including cow-print bucket hats, cow horns and cow-boy hats!

The walk started at the home of MKRUFC, Emerson Valley Sports Pavilion with a warm up  by RainFitz Fitness Squad.

The Midday Moo-vers then started their way to the half-way mark and 5-mile finish at The Good Gym MK in Kiln Farm, which welcomed participants with blasting music and encouraging words from gym owner, Rob Francis. Free drinks were handed out by volunteers from VWFS and Papa John’s Pizza kept everyone fueled. After a rest and refresh, the walkers continued on to Talbot Inn in Loughton where they were treated to another free drink and a performance by the Collaboration Choir.

Nikki Poole, Willen Hospice Events and Community Fundraising Manager, said “We were genuinely moo-ved by the incredible enthusiasm, and love for Willen Hospice we felt on Saturday.

People were walking for all sorts of reasons, in memory of a loved one we’d cared for, a community group or work team walking together, or just to support a good cause and have some fun.

On behalf of Willen Hospice I’d like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Marshall Amplification for sponsoring the event, our pitstops The Good Gym MK and Talbot Inn, Papa John’s Pizza, VWFS, Collaboration Choir, Drone Over MK, RainFitz Fitness Squad and all of the volunteers who helped on the day. Thanks to them, and everyone taking part and fundraising, we raised an incredible amount for Willen Hospice.”

The Midday Moo is just the warm-up for the charity’s biggest fundraising event of the year, the Midnight Moo on Friday 12 July, 10pm from Midsummer Place. Local people can sign up by visiting www.willen-hospice.org.uk/moo

Willen Hospice  provides complex and individual care to all adults affected by life-limiting illness in Milton Keynes and surrounding areas.

Our care is assuring, equally accessible and advanced. It is free to the patient and provided by a highly skilled team of professionals in our In-patient Unit or in people’s homes through our community care team.

We receive less than a quarter of our funding from the NHS and need the support of the local community to provide us with financial stability to ensure that we are always there to care.
