August 18, 2026 (Roanoke, Va.) – Good Samaritan has been named a 2026 Hospice Honors Elite
Award recipient, the highest distinction awarded by MatrixCare for excellence in hospice patient
and family experience.
The annual Hospice Honors program recognizes hospice organizations
across the country that consistently provide exceptional care and create meaningful,
compassionate experiences for patients and their families.
The recognition is based on feedback provided by the families and caregivers of hospice patients
through the nationally standardized Hospice Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and
Systems (CAHPS) survey. The survey evaluates families’ experiences with hospice care across
areas such as communication, responsiveness, emotional and spiritual support, symptom
management, respect for patient preferences and willingness to recommend the hospice to others.
To qualify for Hospice Honors, organizations must first exceed the national performance
benchmark for families’ willingness to recommend their hospice. They are then evaluated across 22
additional measures of quality and family experience. Hospice Honors Elite, the program’s highest
distinction, is reserved for hospice organizations that exceed the national benchmark on all 22
measures.

highlight those agencies that are truly leading the way in providing and demonstrating quality
