Hospice Foundation of America (HFA) is pleased to announce that Kenneth J. Doka, HFA’s Senior Consultant, has received the Association for Death Education and Counseling’s (ADEC) Lifetime Achievement Award. According to ADEC, “The lifetime achievement award is designed to honor an outstanding individual in the area of death, dying, grief and loss who has had a national or international impact on the field and has dedicated his/her professional life to the development and improvement of death education, caring for the dying person, and grief counseling.”
Dr. Doka has been Senior Consultant to HFA for more than 20 years. During that time, he has served as editor of HFA’s Living with Grief® book series, its Journeys newsletter, and numerous other books and publications. Dr. Doka played an integral role in the development of HFA’s groundbreaking Living with Grief ® programs and has been a panelist for the past 26 years. He is a professor of gerontology at the Graduate School of the College of New Rochelle. A prolific author, Dr. Doka has written more than 30 books and has published over 100 articles and book chapters. Dr. Doka is editor of both Omega: The Journal of Death and Dying and Journeys: A Newsletter to Help in Bereavement.
“Ken’s work has made a significant impact in the field of grief and bereavement,” said Amy Tucci, President and CEO of Hospice Foundation of America. “In his role as Senior Consultant to HFA, he has provided valuable education and research to hospice and healthcare professionals, educators, funeral directors, and anyone who works with those who are grieving. At the same time, as an author, speaker and counselor, he has provided essential advice and support to individuals who are on their own personal journeys with grief.”
Dr. Doka received the award on April 12 at ADEC’s annual conference in Atlanta, GA.
