Elected by the NHPCO membership to join the board in 2013 are Samira Beckwith of Hope HealthCare Inc. in Ft. Myers, FL; Jan Jones of The Elizabeth Hospice in Escondido, CA; and Linda Todd of Hospice of Siouxland, Sioux City, IA. Beckwith also serves as chair of the Foundation board which works on behalf of the National Hospice Foundation and FHSSA.
Re-elected to serve second terms on the board are Kate Cummings of Fairview Home Care and Hospice in Minneapolis, MN, and John Thoma of Hospice of Wake County in Raleigh, NC.
The board’s executive committee is comprised of Ron Fried, of VITAS Innovative Healthcare, based in Miami, FL, who will serve as the new board chair following Mark Murray of The Center for Hospice Care in South Bend, Indiana. Murray will continue to serve one more year as immediate past chair.
The other board officers are J. Donald Schumacher, president and CEO; Linda Rock, vice-chair, of Prairie Haven Hospice in Scottsbluff, NE; John Thoma, secretary; and Samira Beckwith serving as treasurer.
Joining these board officers to complete the NHPCO executive committee are Sally Adelus of Hospice of the Valley in San Jose, CA; Mara Benner of Gentiva Health Services, based in Atlanta; Kavin Cartmell of Hospice of Hope in Maysville, KY; and Susan Lloyd, of Delaware Hospice in Wilmington.
Additionally, Jeanne Dennis of Visiting Nurse Service of New York Hospice and Palliative Care, New York, NY, has been appointed to serve one year to complete the term that became available as Mr. Fried moved to board chair.
NHPCO extends special thanks to the board members who concluded service in 2012, Tara Brodbeck, John Feather, and Shareefah Sabur.

We also have expertise from academic institutions and other nonprofit organizations. We all share a common goal to improve care at the end of life.”
NHPCO is the largest nonprofit, leadership organization representing hospice and palliative care programs and professionals in the United States. The organization is committed to improving end of life care and expanding access to hospice care with the goal of profoundly enhancing quality of life for people dying in America and their loved ones.
