“All the stuff you learned in medical school is just a tiny bit of what you need to know to be good in our jobs,” said Atul Gawande, MD, in the opening moments of this televised PBS program.

Dr. Gawande continued by explaining how so many people he sees are taken by surprise by the end of life. The theme for the broadcast “Being Mortal,” was inspired by Dr. Gawande’s bestselling book of the same name.

The Public Broadcasting Service focused on end-of-life issues on an episode of FRONTLINE that was broadcast on February 10, 2015 and featured the work of noted physicians Atul Gawande and Angelo Volandes among experts looking at #WhatMattersMost.

The live broadcast included a social media component with viewers contributing using the hashtag #WhatMattersMost.
