Webinar on advance care planning reimbursement

Categories: Policy.

A Webinar, “Palliative Care: 2016 Coding and Billing Update,” has been added to the schedule of Webinars available from the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization. Presented in collaboration wit the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, this Webinar will be offered on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 from 3:00 – 4:30 pm ET

This Webinar is designed to help providers understand what type of advance care planning is covered under Medicare, who can provide it, and where it can be provided.

The CY2016 Physician Fee Schedule Final Rule, posted by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services on Friday, October 30, included two Current Procedural Terminology codes for advance care planning. CMS established the two CPT codes for physicians to document advance care planning conversations, one code for the first 30 minutes, and a second add-on code for additional 30 minute conversations.

The codes are effective for use for services provided on or after January 1, 2016.

The Webinar will feature Jean Acevedo, of Acevedo Consulting, Inc., who has over 30 years of health care experience with particular expertise in palliative care documentation and coding.

Upon completion of this Webinar, participants will be able to:

•    Identify who can provide advance care planning services
•    Describe how to document the medical necessity of home visits
•    Define the requirements of prolonged services

Registration is open for “Palliative Care: 2016 Coding and Billing Update.”
