Dr. Balfour Mount Memorial Video Now Available

Palliative Care McGill and the Canadian Society of Palliative Medicine (CSPM) are proud to announce that the video recording of Dr. Balfour Mount’s memorial is now available.

On December 4, 2025, Palliative Care McGill and the CSPM held a memorial service for the late Dr. Balfour Mount (1939-2025). Known as the father of palliative care, Dr. Mount founded the first palliative care unit and service in Montreal in 1975. Now, 50 years later, we remember and honour his legacy. The ceremony was led by Dr. Justin Sanders, Kappy and Eric M. Flanders Chair of Palliative Care, and Dr. John Scott, President of the Canadian Society of Palliative Medicine, and featured guest speakers, photo and video tributes, and reflections on how we can carry on Dr. Mount’s legacy in palliative care today.

Soins palliatifs McGill et la Société canadienne de médecine palliative (SCMP) sont fiers d’annoncer que l’enregistrement vidéo de la cérémonie commémorative du Dr Balfour Mount est désormais disponible.

Le 4 décembre 2025, Soins palliatifs McGill et la SCPM ont organisé une cérémonie commémorative en l’honneur du regretté Dr Balfour Mount (1939-2025). Reconnu comme le père des soins palliatifs, le Dr Mount a fondé la première unité et le premier service de soins palliatifs à Montréal en 1975. Aujourd’hui, 50 ans plus tard, nous nous souvenons de lui et rendons hommage à son héritage. La cérémonie a été présidée par le Dr Justin Sanders, titulaire de la chaire Kappy et Eric M. Flanders en soins palliatifs, et le Dr John Scott, président de la Société canadienne de médecine palliative. Elle comprenait des allocutions de conférenciers invités, des hommages en photos et en vidéos, ainsi que des réflexions sur la manière dont nous pouvons perpétuer l’héritage du Dr Mount dans le domaine des soins palliatifs aujourd’hui.
