It has been reported that Dr Buck died hours after the World Health Organization said it could not facilitate her medical evacuation to Germany.
Her death has been described as “a major setback” for Sierra Leone which is already suffering from a shortage of healthcare workers. Since the Ebola outbreak began, approximately 144 healthcare professionals have died.
Dr Buck was the Medical Superintendent attached to the Lumley Government hospital in Western Urban Freetown.
The nature of her death has attracted global media attention with reports featuring in The Daily Mail, The Guardian, and ABC News to name just a few of the global media houses that have covered the tragic story.
