Training for Anglophone palliative care initiators

Categories: Education.

Hospice Africa Uganda has designed a special five-week training course, starting it’s ninth round from 19 October to  20 November, for English-speaking palliative care service initiators across sub-Saharan Africa.

The course is composed of an introduction to palliative care concepts, pain and symptoms assessment and management, holistic care, service initiation and management, clinical skills placements and Training of Trainers skills course. The course is also designed to help health and allied professionals to initiate appropriate and culturally suitable palliative care services in their own countries.

A clinical placement component provides an opportunity for course participants to apply the knowledge and skills gained in class. During the clinical placement, participants will be exposed to different palliative care models used within hospital and hospice sites in Uganda.

Participants will also get an opportunity to study how palliative care services are organised within the different geographical settings in Uganda and the role of other stakeholders such as the Ministry of Health, as well as other palliative care implementers within Uganda.

The application deadline is 15th September, 2015.
