In light of the landmark resolution on palliative care at the 67th session of the World Health Assembly (WHA67) in Geneva, Switzerland over 50 people from across Uganda came together at short notice to offer support and prayer for the resolution.
Speaking at the meeting Zena Bernacca, the Chief Executive Director of HAU, thanked everyone for responding to the call for a prayer meeting saying it was “a wonderful response at such short notice.”
She went on to highlight Uganda’s role in furthering palliative care globally saying, “Today we pray for the spread of palliative care across the world. Not just in Africa but in Europe and Asia as well where there are many countries that have no or little palliative care.”
After Zena Bernacca’s welcome the group joined together to read and respond to the following corporate prayer with the response, ‘Lord, hear our prayer’:
Lord, we pray for those who are hurting and are in pain. Comfort them with your healing touch…
Lord, we pray for those who work with patients and their loved ones. Strengthen them with fortitude and strengthen their resolve….
Lord, we pray for those who are making decisions that affect the lives of patients. Guide them with wisdom and compassion…
Lord, we pray for those advocating for patients through this World Health Assembly resolution. Guide them in unity of voice and influence…
Lord, we pray for the leaders of the nations of the world. Enable them to promote justice and peace for patients in need…
Lord, we praise you for who you are. May we never close our eyes to your blessings around us. May we never lose sight of your healing power in the lives of those we love…
