Ian’s Journey To Ottawa For Palliative Care

Categories: Care.

Monday was easily the most successful single day in terms of awareness for palliative care; we had a function at May Court Hospice hosted by Hospice Care Ottawa and the Canadian Hospice and Palliative Care Association (CHPCA). Retired senator Sharon Carstairs attended and gave an impassioned speech about the need for a national palliative care strategy. Afterwards, we visited Rideau Hall where we met with Governor General David Johnston to discuss our objectives and our vision. And finally, we met with Commander Chris Hadfield in Gatineau, who follows the walk and brings a wealth of credibility to the palliative care discussion.

It was also wonderful to have such support this week, from our military friends who put me up and reloaded supplies to inspired nurses and volunteers. Now that it is a little quieter, I have had a chance to absorb our time there and feel positive that we are making an impact. I also see many opportunities to seize ahead, so stay tuned!
