If it were up to Dr. Allan Kellehear, people would discuss it in schools, in restaurants and over the newspaper, like other health specialities. It wouldn’t just be a topic at the end of one’s life.
“End of life care is everybody’s business,” he said. “You have a responsibility in palliative care and bereavement care.”
Kellehear, a professor of community health at Middlesex University in London, UK and author of several books on end-of-life care, was speaking at the Niagara Health System St. Catharines site Monday night about becoming a compassionate community.
He said communities should understand there’s a role everyone can play in end of life care, including chambers of commerce, churches and schools.
