The Canadian Cancer Society has launched a new campaign and advertisement aimed at inspiring elected officials and policy influencers to address barriers to palliative care across Canada.
The ad reminds Canadians that palliative care isn’t about dying; it’s about developing a care plan to help you live well. And while everyone should have the right to palliative care, not everyone has access to it.
The campaign, entitled About Life, features people who have benefited from palliative care for themselves or their loved ones, including some of our very own volunteers and their real stories. The central message is this: Palliative care lets you focus on what matters, when it matters most.
The campaign – found at cancer.ca/palliativecare and www.cancer.ca/soinspalliatifs — will allow people to send the pre-filled form and templated letter to provincial and federal elected officials to make it quick and easy. The more people that take action, the more governments will listen.
We would like to thank Kensington Hospice for letting us film in their space and sharing Rob’s story with us. We would also like to thank Hospice Care Ottawa for recruiting potential participants.
The 30 second ad will air on TV and digital platforms in addition to our social media channels linked below, in both English and French throughout the month of January. There will also be some additional media stories associated with the campaign. There are also longer videos profiling the individual stories of the people featured in the ad on our website.
