Leading UK charity Together for Short Lives is dedicated to paediatric palliative care and the services provided by children’s hospices. Volunteer work is a crucial component of children’s hospices services, and Together for Short Lives is committed to supporting, expanding and developing volunteers, more especially in care related roles.
Earlier this year Together for Short Lives collaborated with Hospice UK and launched an online resource, ‘Volunteering: Vital to our future’. This resource aims to develop and support organisations and their volunteers in the palliative care industry.
The resource addresses the various roles volunteers can assume in providing care and supporting children and adults receiving palliative care. It is loaded with case studies, tools and templates that will assist organisations review their services and possibly develop new ones, as well as assist individuals working in a volunteering environment gain a wealth of information.
