We are humbled to share a powerful journey from our pediatric palliative care service—one that reflects how dignity can be conserved even in the face of a life-limiting illness.
Meet Suthish (name changed), a young boy (17 year old) with advanced (Pre B ALL) cancer, who became the heart of our creative adaptation of dignity therapy. During his hospital visits, Suthish often turned to drawing and colouring—not out of boredom, but to cope, express, and stay connected to his identity. His art was more than colours on paper; it was courage on display.
Inspired by his use of art as a coping mechanism, we co-created “Colours of Courage”—a legacy project in the form of a slam book. This book allowed Suthish and his family to preserve precious memories, document his thoughts, and express love in their own words and colours.
Through this simple yet profound project, we witnessed:
- Continuity of self – Suthish remained himself, not defined by his illness.
- Role preservation – He became the artist, the creator, not just a patient.
- Hopefulness – Each drawing was a moment of calm, peace, and meaning.
- Generativity and legacy – The book became a timeless memory.
- Maintenance of pride and autonomy – He chose what and how to express.
- Resilience – His quiet strength shone through every page.

As part of Anubandh, this initiative beautifully illustrates how creative, age-appropriate dignity-conserving care can foster healing, legacy-making, and connection—not just for the child or young person but for the entire family.
We continue to walk beside families in grief, holding space for love, memory, and meaning. Because even when the life is short, the bond can be everlasting.
