Katherine Pettus, IAHPC Advocacy Officer, and Stephen Connor, WHPCA Senior Research Fellow will attend the meeting.
Special Segment on the UNGASS
The Special Segment will take place from 9 to 12 March and will aim at continuing discussions around the way the UNGASS will be organised, as well as the topics that will be discussed. This includes issues around access to medications, in particular the proposed scheduling of ketamine.
In order to inform the discussions on the UNGASS, IDPC has created a special page on the event which can be accessed online.
The Commission on Narcotic Drugs
The regular CND session will be held on Friday 13, Monday 16 and Tuesday 17 March. The CND will include a thematic debate at the Plenary, as well as the negotiation of the 12 resolutions presented by member states (including a special one on the 2016 UNGASS) at the Committee of the Whole, starting on Thursday 12 March.
Media coverage of the event
This year, IDPC will collaborate with the International Association for Hospice and Palliative Care, Release and the Canadian Students for Sensible Drug Policies to update the CND Blog in English and Spanish, providing hour-by-hour updates of the discussions and decisions taken at the CND.
To keep up with the proceedings on Twitter, follow the hashtag #CND2015, as well as the hashtag #UNGASS2016 during the UNGASS Special Session.
IDPC will focus its media activities on key topics around the CND, in particular on the death penalty, the public health impact of the potential international scheduling of ketamine, cannabis regulation and the broken Vienna consensus.
