Cypriot hospice to open with country’s first children’s palliative care beds

Two tours will be held on Saturday (23 November) as part of a fundraising ‘Fun Day’. The day will involve an entertainment programme as well as a Christmas bazaar, a cake sale and children’s games.

The plan is for the hospice to initially open with 10 beds, but there is room to expand. Care will be delivered free of charge to everyone in need, regardless of religious belief, nationality or the nature of the illness.

There will also be two bedrooms for children – the first dedicated children’s hospice beds in Cyprus.

Since 2004, € 2.4 million has been raised to help build the hospice. Fundraising is ongoing to help put the final touches on the building and ensure enough funds to cover operation costs.

The new hospice is named after Archangel Michael, respected in Muslim, Jewish, Orthodox, Roman Catholic and Christian religions. From early times he was seen as a patron of the sick and suffering and was also a patron of the worried and anxious.
