Dr Ahmed said that lack of awareness denies relief to the patients in need of psychological, physical and social support.
He demanded inclusion of the palliative care in the National Health Policy to help popularise these services in the country.
The professor said: “”Medical science talks about prevention and cure but no space is provided for the incurable treatment.”
The Palliative Care Unit of the BSMMU, established in 2007, is now capable of providing care for 19 patients at a time. So far 1,344 patients have accessed this care.
