The web portal includes 195 report cards – the AgeWatch country report cards monitor life expectancy and government progress towards meeting the challenges of population ageing through policies, legislation and social pensions.
Global AgeWatch uses graphics to illustrate the current demographic transition – data shows that:
- by 2030, there will be more people 60 or over than under 10
- by 2050, there will be 3.2 million people over 100
- by 2050 64 countries will have a population in which 30% or more of people are 60 or over.
The report cards will be the foundation of The Global AgeWatch Index which will be launched in 2013 – the index will monitor the social and economic situation of older people around the world.
The Global Age Watch data complements the Ageing in the Twenty-First Century: A Celebration and A Challenge report, published by HelpAge International to mark the International Day of Older People on 1 October 2012.
