World Hospice and Palliative Care Day (WHPCD) is an annual unified day of action to celebrate and support hospice and palliative care around the world. WHPCD 2022 will be marked on Saturday, October 8, 2022. The theme is Healing Hearts and Communities. We hope you will join us. With one voice, we will celebrate the importance of palliative care to quality of life, and advocate for equitable access for all.
More than six million deaths worldwide have been recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic resulting in tremendous strain on healthcare systems and unprecedented grief and suffering for health workers and caregivers. In addition, several conflicts and wars are taking place around the globe, resulting in millions of families and caregivers grieving the deaths of family and friends, experiencing social isolation and property destruction.
That is why the WHPCA came up with the Good Grief Campaign to address these important issues. We are counting on you to send your stories, articles, pictures, and videos. We are inspired by experiences and innovations from compassionate communities worldwide that honour and bring healing and hope. WHPCD 2022 includes Good Grief stories, and profiles from around the world showcasing successful grief support programs and memorialisation initiatives. Making quick videos is one way to share Good Grief stories without the time commitment of writing them.
How will we use these resources?
- We would like to bring awareness by using the stories of compassion, experiences and innovations from communities worldwide that honour and bring healing and hope
- We would like to show your work and impact experiences and innovations from compassionate communities worldwide on our platforms like the ehospice international edition, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn and Instagram to shine a light on this.
- The short selfie video clips can be used on social media for advocacy on world day 2022.
It can be something simple, a selfie video recorded on your phone. We can share longer videos on YouTube and we encourage you to send similar campaigns you may have in your organisation files. Please also share the videos on your social media platforms and use the hashtags in the toolkit to make it easy to find you on social media #HealingHeartsandCommunities #WHPCDay22 #GoodGrief. You can send these resources to the WHPCA at info@thewhpca.org and CC the Communications Manager at hkinyua@thewhpca.org The deadline has been extended to 16 September 2022. Remember to also add your WHPCD event in the global map on the Worldwide Hospice Palliative Care Alliance website here https://www.thewhpca.org/world-hospice-and-palliative-care-day/add-event
