A story in Kaieteur News reports that the three-month programme is being led by Ann Read, a retired palliative care nurse from the United Kingdom, and her colleague and friend, Jan Smith, a clinical nurse specialist in palliative care.
Georgetown Public Hospital, in Georgetown, Guyana, is the South American nation’s largest hospital.
Speaking to Kaieteur News, Read said: “I have decided to come to this hospital because it is a major health institution, and if we can establish a system of palliative care here, it can be spread to other hospitals.”
Jan has also brought a number of textbooks to add to the hospital’s medical library and plans to send over more in the future.
