In September of 2023, the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association (HPNA) announced that its Nursing Resource Guides are now available for free in both English and Spanish.
Previously only accessible with an HPNA membership, the Nursing Resource Guides (NRGs) are quick reference sheets for clinicians on a variety of symptoms and topics. Including symptom management, nonpharmacological and pharmacological interventional strategies, leadership education, and guidance on publication projects. Users can access NRGs while in the field from their phone, tablet, or computer,
or download and print them to have on-hand.
“Opening free access and translating our NRGs into Spanish is just one way HPNA is demonstrating commitment to increasing inclusivity and accessibility of our resources,” said Lynn Reinke PhD, ANP-BC, FAAN, FPCN, 2024 board president of HPNA and the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Foundation.
Many successful palliative care and hospice programs are nurse-led or leverage nurses as the central core of their delivery models. Thus, nurses play a key role in shaping the larger societal experience of living and dying. The objective of translating the NRGs into Spanish is to increase accessibility to key knowledge necessary for high-quality palliative or hospice nursing care.
Language barriers can hinder access to essential information about end-of-life care. By offering the NRGs in Spanish, healthcare providers can ensure that Spanish-speaking providers have the same level of information and support as English speakers, promoting equity in healthcare education.
The Spanish translations of HPNA’s full Nursing Resource Guide library were made possible through generous grant funding from the McElhattan Foundation. For more information and to access the NRGs visit the HPNA website.
